Jan 6 Social Badfish SUP FB Brittany Parker is always up to something. Her passion lies in surfing river waves and exploring new rivers. Here's her season highlight.. --------------------------------- 'I ended up on a very last minute trip to be the first to attempt to SUP the mighty Zambezi River. This trip opened my eyes in many different ways. It taught me how to push through fear as well as listen to my gut. I paddled and swam in a river with crocodiles!!! By far the craziest thing I've done. Aside from paddling some of the wildest rapids in one of the wildest places I was touched mostly by the cause. We were there to raise money for the Standup4Rhinos campaign. Being in my own bubble I had removed myself from what's happening with these animals. Numbers are dwindling every day. I felt like I couldn't stop it. But now I know we can all make a difference, riding on hope and motivation, we can all do our part to preserve this Earth's wildlife. Jan 5 Social Badfish SUP FB Our newest ambassador is @mike_fromcanmore ! He's a dad, firefighter, and a real love for exploring his local rivers (many of which have been untouched by SUPS). Here's his season highlight.. -------------------------------- '8hrs of hiking with our camping gear, paddles, PFDs and boards to get to a spot on the Athabasca River that has never seen a paddle board before. For several reasons, this is a more pure form of adventure than Emmett and I are used to. You see, months of planning had gone into this trip. We had spoken to Parks Canada, rafting companies and dedicated river rats looking for any piece of information about this section of river we were about to find ourselves on. Every avenue we explored yielded no results, we were at the mercy of a few old maps and Google earth to trip plan before we set off. The lack of information was exciting. We inflated our boards and set off, dwarfed by the towering mountains of Jasper National Park. I was moved by a feeling perhaps ...
Jan 4 Social Badfish SUP FB @natalizollinger is known for her strength and speed out in the whitewater race circuits. But this year she really stepped up her game in river surfing. Here's her season highlight.. ----------------------------- 'The best part of my season was surfing the famous Skookumchuck wave in BC Canada. I made a pact with myself when I first started paddling that I would never favor one side vs the other. It's a hard, frustrating, and difficult learning curve to wait for your 'offside' to catch up, but it's made a huge difference in my skills, my races, navigation of the river, and the ability to get on more waves.especially skookumchuck. If there is one tip I would give someone first starting out paddling it would be to switch it up as much as possible, challenge your balance muscles, and continually stay in the unfamiliar. You'll see progress a lot quicker that way, which will help you stay motivated longer and push yourself further..every damn day!' #badfishsup #noexcuses #riversurfing ...

Between Skookumchuck in Canada, Pipeline, RVR2RVR clinics, and learning how to shortboard on the Kananaskis this has been my favorite season yet. We drove from one side of the country to the other and then back and forth to Canada a few times! That kind of time spent with the people who inspire you is what life is really about. I never thought a water adrenaline sport like standup paddling rapids and river surfing would be the thing that I plan my years around. I didn't grow up in the water, but it found me, and now it is the community I love most, and the thing I look forward to every summer. I learn more about myself every year traveling and surfing with all of these amazing and different people.
