Mar 21 Social Instagram Matt and I have been discussing the canoe trip from our house (putting in at the confluence if North and Middle Fork Willamette) downstream to Hampton boat ramp. We’ve paddled this stretch from Black Canyon, and it’s fairly benign, but the upper section has a few more navigation challenges, this one probably being the most notable. We are new to whitewater canoeing - so we’re scoping this out for an inaugural spring run. We are thinking we should run the tongue and skirt the edge of the wave on river right. The first rock on river left is a doozy - it’s a huge boulder, and will turn a boat sideways and possibly recirculate it before spitting it out. I wouldn’t want to go under there at all. That log is much bigger and higher up than it looks in the video, and just below this wave there is a very calm eddy that reaches all the way across the river - great swimming hole.
