C1: rodeo, flat spin
This is a spin on a green pile but it is the same concept as a flatspin on a green wave, you just need to keep the hull flatter on the green. There is another way of doing this which will be published soon. The numbers in the corner of the animation relate to each passage of text.
- Carve away from the spin to start with and then plant the blade and keep the hull flat with the flow the water even if it means leaning down stream and the boat will spin towards the paddle.
- Keep the paddle planted and use your hips to help push the boat around.
- This is where the boat needs to be leaning down stream if you are on a green wave but on a white wave you can keep it flat but as you can see still keep the boat spinning of the blade.
- Now swap the blade over onto the off side and plant it to keep the boat spinning and turn your hips to the way of the spin to help speed it up as this is the part where if you do not have enough speed you will fail to stay on the wave.
- This is the tricky bit you need to lean down stream using your hips whilst keeping the pressure on the blade on the off side to keep the spin on the wave because as you can see the boat is already beginning to fall of the back of the wave.
- To keep the boat spinning really pull the off side stroke to keep the boat on the wave.
- Now begin to swap the blade over onto the on side to help pull it back onto the wave or to start the next spin of the momentum of the last one.
- The choice is now your start the next spin, pull your self back onto the wave or just carry on surfing.
